Knoll's legendary story begins in New York in 1938, thanks to the initiative of Hans Knoll, a furniture manufacturer who moved from Germany. In 1941 Knoll hired the renowned architect Florence Shust, who later became his wife and went down in history as Florence Knoll. Since then, modern design has become the pivot around which production is developed, articulated in a wide range of sofas, armchairs, chaise lounges, dormeuse, chairs, tables and Knoll coffee tables. From the outset Knoll has embraced the creative genius of the Bauhaus School and Cranbrook Academy of Art to create new types of furniture and workplace environments. Adopting an approach that sees craftsmanship unite with technology through the use of design, in just a few years Knoll has managed to be internationally recognized for the creation of work furnishings and residential ones that inspire and evolve, while always remaining relevant. Today the Company's commitment is all about modern and sustainable design, which has made it possible to create a unique range of products able to meet different needs and adapt to the changing demands of the market.

Knoll: modern furnishings in Bauhaus style

Inspired by the great masters of the Bauhaus, Knoll has built over the years a catalogue full of iconic pieces that embody the key principles of the Modern Movement, such as functionality and aesthetics with pure and essential lines.

The classic Florence Knoll sofa was designed by the architect in 1954. Declinated in two or three-seat models, it is also available in a soft version, with deep proportions and a more relaxed seat; it is Florence Knoll Relax, which is also available in this case for two or three seats. Like all Florence Knoll’s designs, the relaxed version has an angular profile that reflects the perfectionism of the modern design of the early 1960s, which is still extremely current today. WOMB™ SETTEE is a sofa that Florence Knoll commissioned to Eero Saarinen in 1948. The lamp and wrapping seat recall a basket full of pillows in which to be able to twist. The base is made of steel rod legs with chrome or black painted finish, while the seat is upholstered in fabric or leather. Knoll also offers a wide range of modern armchairs and classic or contemporary lounge chairs, attractive or casual, for lounges of all styles. Within the selection, we recall the iconic designs of the Florence Knoll Relax armchairs, with upholstery available in a wide range of fabrics and leathers, and Florence Knoll Lounge. Designed in 1929 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the Barcelona Stool is a stool with a sober elegance that embodies the most famous maxim of its creator, "less is more".

Knoll’s complete furniture for the house and contract

Florence Knoll developed her personal idea of the modern office, which had to be elegant, functional and above all open space. The Knoll catalogue of office furniture offers solutions for open space, management offices and meeting rooms, but also for healthcare organizations, educational institutions and government agencies. Knoll’s strength in office systems lies in working closely with customers to meet their different needs, and in offering a complete range of products. The office systems, the seats, the storage furniture, the collections of fabrics and skins, allow the company to offer integrated solutions, to furnish any type of public space all around.

The Knoll selection of tables and coffee tables offers a taste of timeless elegance from the Knoll Platner round table collection, designed in 1966 by Warren Platner. The Knoll Platner tables can be used both as a backing and as an ornament. They are based on tubular steel with nickel or metallic bronze finishes. The top is available in three versions: marble, glass and wood. Knoll chairs are made of different materials, ranging from fiberglass to steel, and are available in various shapes and functionalities, allowing these products to adapt to different environments. Designed to accompany the tables in the Platner collection, the Planter steel armchair with armrests is a real armchair, which can be used as a dining chair or in the living area.
