1967

Everything begins with the creative vision of Alberto Smania, who starts working in the field of iron processing. By ingeniously combining leftover pieces of this material, the company’s founder enters the world of furniture design by creating his first coffee table.

This marks the start of a journey driven by a continuous quest for originality and beauty, traits that define Smania to this day. The transition from iron to wood is swift, leading to the creation of increasingly sophisticated tables, chairs, beds, and bookshelves with elevated aesthetic appeal.

1970s

Alberto Smania’s vision embraces the diverse qualities of wood. The lightness of bamboo and the richness of burl create exclusive furniture pieces, incorporating erable—a versatile wood that can be easily painted in various colors.

1980s

These years witness the rise of polished polyester burl, notable for its exceptional durability. Smania leads the way by being the first to work with this material, which allows the company to expand its market internationally.

1990s

In 1997, Smania launches its first outdoor collection: Eden, a heavenly garden experience. During this decade, veranda items crafted from rattan, rope, and iron, often paired with burl pieces, gain traction in the international market.

Early 2000s

Among Smania’s innovations appears wengé, whose deep tones perfectly convey the brand's character. Alongside crocodile-printed leather, the search for new materials continues relentlessly. The eclecticism at the core of the company’s identity is showcased in the Master catalog.

2009

Designer Alessandro La Spada begins collaborating with the company, reinterpreting products previously designed by Alberto and Fabrizio Smania. The horse, introduced by Alberto as a decorative element, becomes the brand’s emblem.

2010

Smania achieves excellence in woodworking by processing walnut feather, showcased in the Master Mood catalog. This exquisite material is a symbol of Smania's artisanal sophistication. The outdoor line Costa Rey emerges, characterized by a strikingly modern style with distinct squared lines.

2011

Meticulous craftsmanship merges leather with wood, introducing smooth inserts alongside rounded tabletops and increasingly present steel accents, culminating in the Beyond collection. “Changing style means having style,” is the guiding principle articulated by La Spada.

2013

Soft and bold, smoked nubuck takes center stage in the new collection, The Club.

2014

Smania’s style becomes bolder and more distinctive, featuring robust, dark elements in a perfect Art Deco style. The Master Collection emerges, showcasing the contrasting styles of designers Rune Ricciardelli and Fabián Pellegrinet Conte through square lines and rounded forms.

2015

Smania expresses its diversity even further with the Home Couture line, introducing innovative fabric finishes and coordinated coverings. The textures and colors of leathers and fabrics lend unique personalities to the products.

2016

This year represents a transformation, where opposites harmonize. Leather becomes a central element, wooden profiles are crafted at 45 degrees, and the aesthetic Lock element, along with the Jersey texture, highlights the company’s tailored character. The Contrast collection, designed by Alessandro La Spada, challenges the brand's aesthetic norms with vibrant new hues.
