De Sede is a Swiss company that merges contemporary sophistication with expert craftsmanship in the creation of leather chairs and sofas. Its production aligns with modern trends while maintaining a meticulous attention to detail characteristic of artisanal traditions. This blend of past and present results in elegant, comfortable solutions that captivate with their simplicity. The company’s primary goal is to create furniture and accessories that satisfy customers not only at the time of purchase but also over the years, transforming into design icons such as the modular DS-600 sofa, which has represented De Sede's style worldwide for over 45 years and even holds a place in the Guinness World Records for being the longest sofa configuration!
Founded in 1965 in a small artisan workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland, De Sede began to make its mark with handcrafted leather products. Its offerings of chairs, sofas, and armchairs quickly gained appreciation, and the brand's reputation grew with the introduction of increasingly elegant models. Starting in the 1980s, De Sede began collaborating with renowned designers from across Europe, including Reto Rigg, Santiago Calatrava, and Mathias Hoffman, further expanding its commercial proposal.
Today, De Sede is a mature entrepreneurial reality that employs over 140 people and markets furniture in more than 40 countries, from the United States to Russia, without overlooking the Arab markets and emerging countries. The opening of a shop within the prestigious Harrods department store in London in 2018 marked a significant milestone in the company’s growth while firmly adhering to its artisanal philosophy.
De Sede’s product range encompasses various aspects of design furniture, from bedroom items to outdoor spaces, from offices to restaurants. The company’s success is evidenced by the numerous accolades its products have received. An emblematic example is the DS-1000 chaise longue, designed by Ulrich Kössl, featuring an innovative tubular structure paired with soft leather cushions, which won the German Design Award in 2019.
Leather is the common thread of De Sede’s offerings. Elegant armchairs, poufs, and sofas, such as the DS-840 model created in collaboration with Geckeler Michels, all feature robust structures and leather coverings that exude elegance. The night area is also well represented; the DS-1155 model, for instance, offers a fully upholstered headboard enhanced with leather inserts.
De Sede also excels in contract furniture. The DS-612 coffee table, designed by Mario Ferrarini, is made from composite material and can adapt to various contexts thanks to its different colors and heights. The DS-777 table, designed by Bruno Fattorini, presents a geometric and rigid interpretation of the work surface, enriched with elements made of marble powder and metal fragments.
One standout is the DS-1051 waiting chair, a new version of the DS-51 model designed in 1971. Its contemporary relevance is ensured by the hand-sewn seams of the seat and backrest, exemplifying the artisanal care that characterizes De Sede products.
Respect for raw materials is fundamental to every De Sede product. Each leather creation is designed and handcrafted by skilled artisans, preserving a tradition that is the true secret to the company’s success. While De Sede embraces technical innovations, it never forgets its artisanal roots.
This artisanal dimension extends not only to De Sede's chairs and furniture but also to its relationship with customers. A notable aspect is the attentive repair service, aimed at restoring the original beauty of armchairs and sofas. Each product tells a story and carries inspirations that are irreplaceable. In an era marked by rapid and impersonal consumption, De Sede chooses the opposite path, focusing on product maintenance to extend their lifespan, as well as offering customized production. Once again, the Swiss company defies the logic of mass production, providing a complete service for creating bespoke sofas, chairs, and accessories. This way, every piece becomes truly original, in addition to being of exceptional quality.
