Poltronova: A Symbol of Radical Design
Poltronova has been synonymous with radical design since its inception in 1957. The Italian brand has always sought collaborations with revolutionary artists and designers, including Archizoom, Superstudio, Vignelli, Aulenti, Ernst, Michelucci, DDL, Hollein, Coates, and Arad. Despite being considered an outsider, Poltronova played a key role in a groundbreaking revolution in the design world.
Located in Tuscany, where mass production of furniture was virtually unknown, Poltronova embraced the wave of rebellion that was emerging on the international style scene.
Under the artistic direction of Ettore Sottsass from 1959 to 1972, Poltronova laid the groundwork for postmodernism applied to everyday objects. The result was iconic products like the Joe chair, the Ultrafragola lamp/mirror, the modular Superonda sofa, and the Mies chair. Although created with a playful intent, all these products continue to be produced as unique and unusual pieces for domestic spaces.
Today, under the dedicated guidance of Roberta Meloni, Poltronova remains one of the most prestigious brands of “Made in Italy,” keeping its distinctive identity alive through fantastic handcrafted objects made from high-quality materials.
